Municipality of Visp
The municipality of Visp in the district of Visp is considered the central hub of the Central Valais, both economically and culturally, and is part of the Brig-Visp-Naters urban area. From the valley floor at about 641 meters above sea level, the built-up area extends up to the higher, sun-drenched slopes with vineyards and an alpine character. As of the end of 2024, 8,709 people lived in Visp, benefiting from excellent transportation connections. These include rail connections via SBB and the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, as well as the nearby A9 highway. The municipality has a strong industrial base with approximately 12,500 jobs, a large portion of which are at Lonza, complemented by numerous small and medium-sized enterprises.
